Dogfishhead: Burton Banyon

"An oak aged imperial india pale ale"

Not many beers fill your nostrils when you pull in a whiff. This beer does not underwhelm. Great thick mouthfeel that you would expect and a well balanced hoppiness. It certainly hides the 10% abv well. I dont know how else to describe it. Its good.

American Brewery, Breakaway IPA

New place, well, new to me. I had the stout before but found this at the corner market. I am impressed. Flowery hoppy flavors that complement the smooth body and smell. I typically dont care for this type of hopping but they have done so tastefully. I would say this is a well balanced IPA and would buy it again. Located in Edmonds Washington means its a quick hop away so i should visit it soon.

Green Flash: Double Stout

So of my recent beer adventures, this is the best choice i have made. Thick brown head and a first sip that just says, "hey, im a stout. Where the hell have you been?" Passes the stout hole test easily, presents a brown chocolate malty deliciousness that i have been missing. The flavor lingers and reminds you that you just had a stout. Not quite a chocolate cake but more of a great balanced porter. A+

Firestone Walker: Reserve Porter

Meh. Lets just leave it at that. Weak body, not really portery. Ill try it again someday, maybe they messed up my order.

Oskar Blues: G'Knight

Maybe i should look into what they were trying to do here. Not quite sure what this should be. Its almost like an arrogant bastard or dead guy type but not all the way there. Really meh compared to their other stuff. Pretty sweet, sickly sweet, and not very balanced for what it might be.

Firestone Walker: Pale Ale

Kung Pow. Flowery smell that just hits you in the face. Nice bittering hops, light flavor and mouthfeel, no lingering flavors. Great for an IPA but it is labeled an ale. I guess thats my ownly qualm with it aside from i would like to try more of their products.

Eel River: Organic Amber Ale

Deep honey color, quickly dissipating head, and a woody smell. A bit of a tangy mouthfeel bit overall not terrible. The flavor is gone as fast as the head and every subsequent drink is less and less. Served in a bottle, the carbonation was bitey. Could be a bit mellower on tap. Id say not the best but it isnt bad.

Georgetown: Lucile IPA

Great flowery hoppy smell, light head, light body, golden color, but a great hoppy IPA. Not very sweet and a good balance between hop and body. This is almost a standard IPA that you definetly should try at the first available opportunity.

yoho brewing: tokyo black

The can had me, i must admit. I was expecting something of interest like the Sheaf Stout from Australia and i think my hunch was right. This porter is fairly malty with a slight undertone of the regular black malt. Not exactly what i go for in a porter. Under the government warning sticker was a website, www.yonasato.com , the only english on the can besides Tokyo and Porter.

Shock Top: Pumpkin Wheat

Not my favorite brewery. Not my favorite pumpkin pumpkin beer. I think what i want in a beer is a thick ale that resembles a pureed pumpkin pie in a glass. As typical, this is a wheat beer. Clean finish, not very spiced, and over all not a winner.

Bison: Chocolate Stout

It said chocolate. And stout. I had to try it. Nice brownish head, pours very nice, and has a good stout smell about it. Passes the stout hole test easily with a thin glass. It is brewed with cocoa but it isnt altogether present. I would like to try this beer without it as i feel it might taste the same. Overall its not terrible but not my favorite.

Laurelwood: Red

Good full bodied red ale. The hops are a little off and the "red" might be a little up a little much. Maybe i dont like reds? For a red it's probably my favorite one though. The thing that gets me is the aftertaste. It has an odd twinge, might be the body, might be the hops. Please comment.

Walkabout Brewing: Workers pale ale

For a pale ale, this is great. Very good smell, full body and balanced well with hops and body. Head was thick, white, and did not dissapate quickly. Very good beer.

Deschutes: Hop in the Dark

Cascadian dark ales are a great idea. This beer is a mouthful but very well balanced. This isn't quite an imperial but a little thicker and it could be. Very good beer.

Oakshire: Amber

Delicious. Oakshire does great stuff. This amber is full bodied with a sweet malty flavor and a hint of black or chocolate malts. 24 ibu, 12.8* Plato, 5.4% abv. You need to try it.

BJ's PM Porter

Apparently I miss posted my last beer from this place. If I remember correctly, the imperial stout was little to be desired for, served on nitro, and I was going to try the porter next time.
Porter isn't that great either. Don't recommend either of them.

McMenamins: Terminator Stout

I've had this a few times bit never commented on it. It passed a stout hole test, sickly sweet smell and a sweet taste. The mouth feel is good but its just not as good as I would like. The lingering opinion is that is just too sweet and the flavor didn't punch through. Next time I'll have the porter.

Hop Valley: Hopocalypse Blackout Stout

Delicious. I tried to take a picture but I just didn't make it. Body could be a little thicker but its a very drinkable beer. Passed the stout hole test against the bright sky and had a great smokey sweet flavor. I don't like every beer from hop valley but this one is a winner. Next time I'll write a better article as I scarfed it down before I could really comment.
