Not many beers fill your nostrils when you pull in a whiff. This beer does not underwhelm. Great thick mouthfeel that you would expect and a well balanced hoppiness. It certainly hides the 10% abv well. I dont know how else to describe it. Its good.

What is that (good) smell?! This beer looks like a stout when it pours, but is smells like, like oak on steroids? Don't know how to describe it.

My first sip had me dissapointed, it was "woo hoo it's a brown ale... dee dee dee, why am I not tasting that weird smell?" And it had a really dry finish. Strange, I know, I'd heard awesome things about this beer.

Third sip (second sip was blah), oh. Oh. OH! Wow. There's something awesome there. I didn't know you could bottle awesome but apparently dogfish head has figured out how.

For me the taste kept building, at first I wished they had gone with a more flavorful base beer, but as I drank more I'm glad they didn't. The dry finish seemed to fade away too, maybe I had the beer too cold?! Maybe it's the 12%... There's some kind of hickory, maple sugar, smoked oaky thing going on. I think I'm going to need another bottle to try to describe the taste.

Another amazing brew from Dogfish Head!

p.s. I'm looking for a bottle of Dogfish Head's Theobroma, anyone in Washington seen a bottle?

Oak aged Imperial IPA?!?!

Oh wow, I need more! First sip is meh, ok good ipa, I expect that from Dogfish Head. Then the oak hits. Kind of sneaks up on you, like "woah what was that?!" so you take another sip. I'm looking for the oak now, and it's good. This beer has a lot to it, I kinda wish it had come in a 22oz. so I could continue on my beer quest. But it's probably best it doesn't... Anyway, I like it. It's everything that is awesome about the 90 minute IPA + 42.

If you see it, buy it!

Interesting brew. Almost like a beer and wine mix. Pours like a beer, smells like a beer, but has a sweetish kind of white wine taste mixed in there.

First sip, the beer is thicker than I expected and a little sweeter than I thought it would be. I think the beer/wine flavors blend better as it warms a little. Smooth too. I'm liking it, but I'm not sure what it would go well with. There's a weird redbull-ish sweet/sour taste that I can't place. I'd call this beer a light dessert beer. Although it might go well with roasted lamb... guess I'm not sure what to make of it, more research is needed!

Overall an interesting and pretty tasty beer, just not one I see myself drinking too often.

Dogfish Head: World Wide Stout

I decided to recap this one after owning this bottle for almost a year now. It lacks some flavor, is overly sweet, and highly alcoholic. 20% in fact. There is almost a mahogony undertone to it. It goes down smooth though but sits too heavy to be truely drinkable. Not super great.

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA

Dogfish Head has yet to dissappoint me. This isn't as crazy as the 90 or 120 Minute IPA's but this is a great staple beer. It pours a golden yellow color almost lagerish in appearance and head. Tiny bubbles are super present with this one and it has the light mouthfeel to accompany it. I wouldn't say it was my favorite IPA but it's super drinkable. Champagne IPA?

Dogfish Head: 90 Minute IPA, 120 Minute IPA

Starting with the 90 Minute IPA I guess is the logical thing to do. It poured very clear with an amber color. It's clarity and color are missleading as the body is fairly heavy. It is a bit sweeter than I like but not terrible. The hops weren't too strong and I didn't smell them right away, but about 4 inches away I caught it. It isn't too hoppy but fairly balanced with it's reasonably thick body. Not terrible for an imperial IPA but I think it shouldn't be so sweet. Not sure if I'd drink two of them back to back, but overall a decent beer and I'm glad I had it.





Holy moly. 20% ABV, 120 IBU, and 450 calories per bottle, this 120 Minute IPA sounds crazy on paper. I'm so glad I drank this after the 90 minute. This drowns the 90 Minute. At my first sip I was hit in the nose by the alcohol vapors and knocked in the back of my head with its huge presence. Like many heavy beers this has a maple flavor that accompanies its huge body. Claiming a Plato of 45* (1.180 SG) this beer is the thickest I've ever had besides Utopia's. It poured with a subtle head and clings strongly to the glass. Halfway through the glass I could really smell the maple/mahogany coming out just sniffing the beer. And here a week before christmas, fruit flies have found my beer. I really wasn't expecting this beer to be like this as I hadn't done any research on it at all. I don't think I'd get either of these again but I'd really recommend you at least try it.

Dogfish Head: Chicory Stout

Semi sweet Molassas tones and coffee tones. It poured without a head and remained in the glass a dark mass. This beer finished great and if you like coffee flavored beers, this is a good one. More of a porter than a stout though. They mention being brewed with licorice root though its presents is not overpowering. Overall a good beer. This is a seasonal beer released on Dec 1st.

Dogfish Head: Raison D'Être

I got this cause it was cheap, made from Dogfish Head, and I was warned that it wasn't the best. "Belgian beet sugars, green raisins"... Sounds weird.

And it is. I tasted black licorice, root beer, and coca cola? But not as sweet as all of them put together. It was good despite that. I had it with some teriyaki chicken and broccoli. Not necessarily great, but a must have if your looking for something different.

90 Minute IPA

This is an awesome Imperial IPA. I can't think of one thing I don't like about it other than the wishing it came in a 6 pack.

It pours a deep golden amber color, dense head and amazing hop aroma. It tastes like a sweetish full bodied IPA, almost like an American style barleywine. The hops are there, but they're not as assertive as some IPA's, this is a balanced beer - I like it.

I have a bit of a rant about IBU's (international Bittering Units). While they are an important measurement for brewing, I don't think that they accurately portray perceived bitterness. For example, the 90 minute has a huge 90 IBU rating but it tastes more like a beer with 60 IBU's.
Whaaaattt? Where did the hops go?

Aging, beer ingredients, alcohol level in the beer and a whole host of other things mess with perceived IBU's. Let me prove it to you, here's an experiment you can do at home! Stone's Ruination IPA has 100+ IBU's as does Avery's Hog Heaven Barleywine (I’m sure there are others, any IPA and strong ale with about the same IBU rating will work) so they both should taste outragesly hoppy right? The barleywine will be nowhere near the bitterness level of the IPA – try it and see!

Its imperial. 9% Abv, dry hopped. At 90 IBU's, I've had beers with more hop for sure. Am I immune? It must have a finish gravity of at least 1.015 as its very thick on the palate. Honey citrus, but not a whole lot of emphysis on the hop. I don't feel as if I could drink more than a couple of glasses or could I? This beer has me perplexed. As this is my only glass, I suspect I'll have to give another review at a later time. Mayhaps it could have been my choice of dinner. Citrus stir fry.

Dogfish Head World Wide Stout

Wow. Crazy beer.

Poured jet black, has to be the darkest stout I've ever seen! Imagine pouring a black hole into a glass and you get the idea. Medium head that dissipated quickly, intense lacing on the glass. Deep malty, chocolate, coffee smell. First sip is very sweet, almost too sweet. Its immediately apparent that this is a big beer that must have had a very high SG and the residual sweetness makes me think the FG was fairly high. Very full bodied, not chewy but velvety I liked that about it. Next sip I start tasting the malts and chocolate with a coffee aftertaste. Put it down and came back to it 15 min later - The flavors have blended a little more and the alcohol sweetness has taken a backseat, this beer is better when served at about 50-55*F.

Interesting beer, definitely worth trying and I'm looking forward to drinking the other one I bought when the mood strikes me. However, not something I will go out of my way to get again.
