Brew Munkey - Circus Freak Amber

Brew Munkey - Circus Freak Amber

After one week in the bottle… I couldn’t help myself…
Ha, HA! I have beer again! After a too long hiatus, my brew rig is back up and running at full steam. It’s affectionally called (say this in a booming monster truck announcer kind of voice) Not just Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! But now every day that ends in “Y!”

BREWMAGEDDON!!!

Sorry, got excited… So. It turns out I didn’t calculate the efficiency of my new brew rig correctly, this version of Amber turned out much, much stronger than I expected. Turns out I’m ok with that “problem.”
I also have our Scottish ale, Brewkakii, bottled and I have a clone of Pliny the elder fermenting. Brew Munkey will be back with a vengeance this year! Prepare yourself now for the coming of Brewmageddon!

Brew Munkey - Mocha Cherry Stout, 1yr old

This was hiding in the back of the fridge. I had issued a DRINK NOW order about 6 months after I brewed the beer because it was starting to taste just a little off.

At one year old: Way overcarbonated, still smells ok. Bitter! Ick! My mouth feels like i just licked a piece of chalk. Second sip just because I don't like throwing out beer -Did I mention bitter?! Like dark chocholate grapefruit bitter. Wow, did not age well... Note to self...

EizenMunkey

EizenMunkey, Mmmmmm I miss it.

A neat picture from the brewing process I found.

So far, the EizenMunkey is the strongest, thickest, darkest, other adjectives ending in "est", estyest beer we've brewed/made. On par with Samuel Adams Triple Bock, but better tasting. Yeah, I defiantly miss it.

Oaked Tard Munkey

Oaked Tard Munkey, 13 months old.

Beer pwn fluorescent light, rar! Passes the stout hole test, as if there was any doubt.

Smells like molasses and maple syrup, it smells thick if that's possible. Clings to the glass, side note: this beer stained a thermometer while it was brewing. The first sip is a magical overwhelming sensory journey for your taste buds. First taste is sweet chocolate maple syrup on pancakes. Next an oaky vanillaish that blends into a velvety thick mouthfeel. Little bit of carbonation on the end I think is masking the high alcohol (14%). Smooth finish, I can't believe I'm not tasting the hops, this brew is well over 100 IBU's. This is a dangerously tasty and drinkable beer!

Brew Munkey: IPArter

Oh here we go. Pours thick, tan thick head, black body that just fills the mouth. Consistently my most favorist porter ever. It has a deep almost mohagony, maple flavor but maintains a high drink-alot-ability. The black malts really come out on this one. A very good beer if you like porters. And did I mention the hops? This batch boasts 18oz of hops per barrel and brings some serious flavor. Better get yours before we go pro.

Brew Munkey: Eye.P.A.

Carmel tones, light foamy head, good hop presence, and a great light body on the tongue. I think we've nailed the IPA on the head! This beer is super drinkable, well balanced, and maintains its hoppy character till the end of the glass. One of favorites (and I'm not just saying that cause its Brew Munkey). If you have the chance to swing by and have some I would recommend doing so.

The Imperial Tard Munkey

Here it is in all its glory. The Imperial Tard Munkey will kick your ass, but you'll like it...

As you pour a sweet hop smell assaults your nose. I'm thinking it smells like hops and maple syrup I think I might want to put this on pancakes! The head builds to a dense thick and dark layer, you might need a shovel to get to the beer below. The taste, omg, its sweet but bitter and full bodied but smooth chocolaty hoppy malty oaky vanillaish with I can't distinguish what else! My tongue is tingling! I don't want more, I need another taste! I'm going to go enjoy my beer now, I'll get back to you guys later!

On Tap

Brewmunkey1 "On Tap"

ESB

This beer is becoming one of my staple beers. Its more malty than the big brewery ESB's, and has more bitterness (a trait that seems to be dying off). It's not quite clear and doesn't stick to the pallet like a heavier beer does. I wouldn't say "crisp" but it has enough there to be a well balanced beer. Make sure to swing by and try it if you're around the neighborhood.

Weissebock

Much like the Sweet & Sour Weisenbock, this is a wheat beer. Its very clean with a light honey hue. With fruity tones and a crisp finish you'll know you'll like it by your second taste. This definetly isn't a beer you just find at the store.

What's on tap

Brew Munkey A currently has Brewkakii on tap. Its malty and earthy and good like a scottish ale should be, full review to follow.

Munkey EYE.p.a Should be on tap in a week or two - we'll see if it needs another round of dry hopping...

Brew Munkey 1? What you got on tap?!

Brew Munkey IPArter

Oh, yes. Brew Munkey did it again. It might be early for some, but its never too early for IPArter. Pronounced "eye-pee-arter", its a Porter with an IPA hope schedule. Yes, its that good. Nearly 2lbs of hops per barrel confirm that.
Boston Lager, drink your heart out.

SG 1.055
FG 1.010
ABV ~6.0
