Elysian - Dragonsooth Stout

Elysian - Dragonsooth Stout

Still awesome. The peanut butter Oreo's that are in the background there, not so much.

Elysian: Jasmine IPA

It poured a light brown color with a white head. And when I say brown, I mean it had very little golden hue. The aroma smelled a little off and not of Jasmine at all, and I drink a lot of Jasmine Green Tea. First sip tastes like bread or malt. Not good at all. The hops were of just a wrong flavor and the body was all wrong. Maybe I got a bad batch? This beer is borderline gross. I keep thinking of doughy bread. I'll try it again later if someone else gets it, but this bottle is not right. Could be because it says bottled for Elysian by New Belgium Brewery? Oh Dick, how could you.

Elysian: Perseus Porter

I have a secret love affair with porters. This one is a little sweeter than I usually like and lacked the heavy black malt flavors that I am particulary fond of. It has won an award in 1999 and 2003 in the GABF and is overall a well balanced porter. It has a malty smell, light tan head, dark body, with just a tint of black malty goodness. Overall a decent beer but nothing really stood out to me. Take that as good, bad, or nuetral. Whatever you do, pour slowly, I had a few yeasty chucks floating around in my glass (and I do a careful pour).

Dragonstooth Stout - Still excellent

Had another bottle of it last night. This stout never disappoints, always very tasty.

If you haven't tried it yet I don't know what's wrong with you.

Elysian: Night Owl Pumpkin Ale

PUMPKIN ALE IS HERE!

Elysian is one of my favorite breweries. This beer is light orangy in color, light body, not hops to speak of, but plenty of spice! This is a great pumpkin beer and a good ale. It slacks a little on the pumpkin taste but it more than makes it up with flavor. The alcohol presence is mute and it's not overly done like some beers. An excellent balance between pumpkin, spice, and beer have been achieved here.

Dragonstooth Stout

I was in the mood for a stout last night, hadn't had one in quite awhile. The new Dragonstooth stout lable caught my eye and I know it to be a good stout so I picked it up. Some of Elysian's beers seem to taste simple, but it works - in a strait to the point you know I'm a good beer sort of way. Roasty coffee, chocholate malts, full body yep its got everything I was looking for in a stout. I'm keeping one of these on standby for my next stout craving.

The Rogue Hero

I was there at the Rogue Hero on Friday night having a beer and watching The Collected. Good times. They have a few beers on tap, of which the following I had:

Elysian Immortal IPA
Elysian Perseus Porter
Rogue Dead Guy Ale

The Immortal was pretty damn good for an IPA. Nice carmel color, good bitterness, and wasn't excessively dry hopped.

The Perseus Porter was good too, but not a good chaser to the IPA. It wasn't all too sweet and lacked that husk/grit mouthfeel some porters get (which is good). Very dark color and followed the style well. Wasn't excessively thick and drank easily. Since I had the IPA first, it was hard to taste the hops. I wonder what would happen if I mixed the two....

The Dead Guy was a very good finishing beer. Little sweet, little bitter, good ale. I believe it is dry hopped as it has a fresh hop taste and leaves a thick feeling on the palet. Still a favorite of mine but I can't drink more than two in a row. I actually had a chance to go to the Rogue Pub in Newport Oregon, its good there too!
